Myself and Mike have had a small discussion this morning about changing the layout of the specimen guide as we felt that we were both happy with the visual and concept of the alphabet but not the booklet part. The content we have already developed is suitable for what we aimed to show off about the typeface to the audience but simply needs re working onto a different format and layout.
During working on my dissertation I looked at a very similar topic and received several existing type specimens from FontSmith. The examples which I received are very appropriate to this brief too and decided to show Mike these just in case they were of any help. We both became exited about the possibilities of different formats and layouts from these and discussed the possibility of doing something very similar with are own. We feel that a more complex format and layout will engage the audience further with the use of folds and block coloured sections. This also would follow the whole idea which we have been trying to achieve with the typeface itself- something that is engaging, bold and fun to appeal to a younger audience.

Reflection and return.
After abandoning this module over the past month to focus on my dissertation so that it was finished for the deadline I can now return to 603. I have spent this morning reflecting on the feedback I received before Christmas and what I have achieved so far.
I can see that this module really needs to pick up pace in the coming months to achieve everything which I set out to in the studio pitch. I still need to work on competition briefs but this is something I need to sort out with Steph when we return after this break. I also need to speck to my other partner about completing the coeliac type as there are a few areas we noticed before that need changing and improving. Need to get this done before I can move on with my own brief in creating a Coeliac publication using the type- so that is definitely on hold for now. At this current moment I need to finish off the remaining elements on my blog and also finish the 78violet brief. From the feedback I received I know I need to go back through and take better photos of my finals now in preparation for my final submission boards and portfolio. I also need to look at producing more primary research for each one but this can come into affect as I start with the new ones.
As for the new briefs I still have to look at I have revised the order which I want to complete them- just because my interests have changed and I want to try somethings out while they are still in my head.
I will complete the 80s channel (as this is already partly started) and the Yorkshire restaurant first, then Leeds cat rescue and competition briefs. Followed by Coeliac publication, Books still? and still finishing with the publication on Yorkshire. As I have created new collaborative briefs and taken on more live briefs since the studio pitch than anticipated so the Wizard of Oz brief may not get completed but I hope to slot it in as possibly a two day brief so the outcome wont be as elaborate as first hoped for.
I am looking forward to getting back onto working with this module.
I also found that I was unsuccessful with the Elmwood submission which I am a little disappointed about but can understand why this decision was made. The profession which I was given was something that I struggled with and the outcome is somewhat obvious but found it difficult not to be without being boring. I could have also thought more about the range of products which I produced. However I am pleased with the visuals and concepts that I developed and are happy enough for this to be a portfolio piece.
