Hallmark (comp)- Initial concepts.

After reading the brief and looking back through the research which I collate I began to look at common themes within children's design and birthdays and begin to decide what design direction I want to take with the development. Colour was something which was decided by the palettes which they had supplied so this is something which I will look at in more detail when I have chosen my final concept.

Common themes

  • Dinosaurs
  • Space
  • Animals
  • Food
  • Sweets
  • Balloons
  • Gifts
  • Clowns
  • Education
  • Cars
  • Toys
  • Numbers
  • Type

Design choices

  • Type based
  • Pattern
  • Illustration
  • Character design

For my final concept I think I will look at the idea of a sweet and celebratory theme which will explore all the popular design choices from this sector but mostly illustration and character design. I feel that children need a design which is engaging and allows them to make a personal connection to the objects being depicted. 'Sweet celebrations' is a concept which will use common treats seen at a party, such as ice cream and cake, but with a character based design that will personify the objects and make them more believable to the younger audience. This also allows a direct connection to the idea of party and birthdays being a fun time where health isn't the main subject for once.
Because of the quick turnaround needed this quick choice of concept has being made.
