My initial thoughts are to produce a screen printed publication or poster (as this is a process which I enjoy and would be useful to get more practice with) that showed my interest in type. I would also want to include old nostalgic photos which had been scanned as this is something personal as shows my history but also shows off my use of type and image.
Another possibility would be to scan in articles found through the ages as this would work nice with the nostalgic scanned imagery but also show off my love of type and reading.
This would be a layered screen print which could be added to in the future to suggest that I form ideas in a complex way but also that over time somethings become blurred and not remembered or covered up.
Feedback
Feedback from the group crit was quite negative as we discussed the importance and need of the publication. Not just about making nice visuals needs to be useful to our practice in some way.
Maybe to change the publication into an analysis of type as a form and a breakdown of anatomy across the pages.
Remove the idea of a layered screen print as just pointless and would loose legibility- not showing use and knowledge of type that way.
Keep it simple- don't overcomplicated and display info clearly so in future can be understood when busy.
From this I have changed my idea to a simple publication with a number of pages but still using screen printed elements. Possibly look at this dissection of type anatomy and the dissection of what interests me about it building up a final picture by the end. Good reference book then to show the basics of type and why these are fundamental to my learning but also my career ahead. A much stronger and useful idea to the visual piece I had in mind before plus more technical and a refresher of principles and my dissertation knowledge. Still following my personal interests in design and the visuals though.
