As part of the Hallmark expansion I wanted a chance to work with screen print again. Because of the limited numbers of screen which were available at the time I had to reduce the amount of colour separations which I could do. Although I have learnt that I can cleverly make a third colour with the overlay of the two originals. This turned out to be a great time saver but still produce a bright and engaging final piece. During the process I looked at different stocks ranging in different weights, finishes and colours. I found that the best ones were those printed on cartridge as they were sturdy and showed the colours off great.
I chose a cyan and magenta colour to appeal to the unisex market but when the eventual designs were seen I would say they appeal more to girls because the overlay colour has a pinkish/purple tone to it. These turned out better though than the artwork I submitted because they are more simplistic and creates more focus on the illustrations than previously.
During the process I had some issues with smudging where the screen hadn't being properly cleaned between colours. This was a fault of my own with rushing and trying to save time in an already busy schedule. I am happy with taking time out to do it though because I have improved skills and confidence with screen printing further.
